(KMOV) -- A Missouri woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison on murder for hire charges in connection with the murder of her husband.
Karen Coleman was convicted of these charges in the 1992 murder of her husband Danny Harold Coleman.
According to trial evidence, Coleman recruited Larry Nolan, a prison inmate, in 1990 to arrange her husband’s murder. Nolan then recruited James Kornhardt, a Mehlville firefighter, to commit the murder. Kornhardt then recruited Steven Mueller to assist in the murder.
Evidence states that on October 22, 1992, Danny Coleman left work at around 4:00 p.m, Authorities say Kornhardt and Mueller later murdered Coleman in St. Louis. Danny Coleman's body and truck were found burnt in a field in Franklin County, Missouri.
Trial evidence shows that Karen Coleman began collecting on insurance policies after her husband’s death. Kornhardt and Mueller were then paid for their roles in the murder from portions of the insurance money.
The men were convicted of conspiracy to commit murder for hire and murder for hire on On June 14, 2010, Karen Coleman pleaded guilty to the same charges June 3, 2010. Kornhardt was also found guilty of obstruction of justice.
Kornhardt and Mueller each face a mandatory minimum sentence of life in prison. They are expected to be sentenced on September 23, 2010.
