(KMOV)-- A bus carrying students from St. Louis caught fire north of Carbondale Monday morning.

The bus was carrying 51 students seventh grade students and chaperones from Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School (MICDS). The students were on their way to attend 7th grade camp this week at the Touch of nature Environmental Center in Makanda, Illinois.

Authorities said a right rear tire malfunction sparked an engine fire. All students were evacuated before the fire broke out and no injuries were reported.

Two other chartered buses carrying MICDS seventh grade students arrived at camp without incident, and those same buses later transported the students from the impaired bus on to camp. Some students lost camp gear and personal possessions as a result of the incident.
