Government pushes flu vaccines for 'community immunity'

(KMOV) – If it seems too early to think about the flu vaccine, think again.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends everyone over six months get the shot as soon as it’s available.

The vaccine is supposed to protect against last year’s H1N1, and also two other common influenza strains.

The government wants people to get vaccinated early in support of what it calls “community immunity.” This means the more people vaccinated, the less widespread an outbreak will be.

Walgreens started its program Tuesday, and will have flu shots available at every store during business hours for $29.00
