(KMOV) -- The Rockwood School District Board of Education voted 5-2 to assert a fee on the Boy Scouts for use of its buildings.
Dozens of Boy Scouts appeared before the Rockwood School District's Board of Education, but could not convince the board to take their side and not create a fee for the group's use of school space.
The Scouts argued that they make positive contributions to the community and that the economic impact of a fee would be devastating. But district leaders argued that all other similar non-profit organizations are charged a fee. The district said it must treat all groups fairly or open itself up to lawsuits.
The Scouts estimate that the economic impact of a fee would be $50,000 annually
