(KMOV) -- The area around the South Tucker Bridge is about to get a bit more congested.
Crews discovered a previously undetected, deteriorated area on one of the supporting columns while doing repairs to the substructure of the South Tucker Bridge between Chouteau and Spruce.
Traffic will not be allowed over the affected column while the repairs are made due to sound engineering practices, so the northbound curb lane on the bridge has been closed over the area being repaired. The repairs are expected to be completed within two weeks.
The previously scheduled bridge repair project includes the replacement of some sections of the bridge’s steel girders at the expansion joints and will also require lane closures for periods of time while the repair work is being performed.
Work for that portion of the program is expected to start in September when the replacement steel has been fabricated and delivered to the site. The bridge will remain open to traffic throughout the progress of the repair work.
