(KMOV) -- Four of the five finalists in the competition to redesign the Arch grounds are somewhat supportive of getting rid of Interstate 70 in downtown St. Louis.
The stretch of I-70 that runs below the surface in front of the Arch and the elevated section that goes by the Edward Jones Dome are the major areas the group called “City to River” would like to see removed.
City to River held a rally downtown on Wednesday at the Tap House. The rally was to encourage supporters of the group’s design idea to go online and leave public comments that are now being accepted by the Park Service.
The group points out that in a couple of years, I-70 will be rerouted over the new Mississippi River Bridge, ultimately making this portion of the highway structure unnecessary.
The design by City to River, as well as the designs by the other finalists, coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Arch that will happen in 2015.
