CHICAGO (AP) -- Illinois lawmakers are reacting to the verdict in ousted Gov. Rod Blagojevich's corruption trial.
Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno says she's concerned the Blagojevich defense team may have convinced people he was just doing politics as usual in Illinois.
Radogno says elected officials need to send a strong signal that the politics of the past are over.
Blagojevich was convicted of just one count of lying to federal prosecutors. The judge declared a mistrial on 23 other counts. Prosecutors have vowed to retry the case.
Democratic Senate President John Cullerton said the jury confirmed the former governor's pattern of dishonesty even though they were deadlocked on many charges.
Lawmakers threw Blagojevich out of office in January 2009 when they impeached him.
