CHICAGO (AP) -- Illinois' unemployment rate rose to 10.3 percent in June.
That's the highest rate since 1983, and it's up from 10.1 percent in May.
Nationally, June unemployment was 9.5 percent. That was also a 26-year high.
Illinois Department of Employment Security Director Maureen O'Donnell says the pace of job loss across the state has slowed for three straight months. She says that's a sign Illinois is starting to recover from the recession.
The state lost 5,400 construction jobs in June and 2,800 manufacturing jobs.
The total number of unemployed Illinoisans in June was 683,300. That's more than in any month since November 1983.
