(KMOV) – As the St. Louis Cardinals progress through post season play, area businesses and local establishments gear up for the impact.

Game five of the NLDS isn’t just do or die for the Cardinals, it could be the last chance businesses have this year to cash in on the team’s success.

Across downtown St. Louis and beyond, fans packed into bars and restaurants for Game 4 against the Pirates; leaving behind a heavy cash register for business owners.

Many places News 4’s Julian Johnson spoke with are expecting the same turnout if not more for game five at Busch Stadium.

If the Cardinals don’t advance, some places think they could see a major slowdown until next season.

“They’re the talk of the town so as long as they play, we're happy and full but when they stop playing you can really tell,” said Jeremy Binkley of The Post Bar and Grill.  He is seeing the numbers triple during the post season, “we're full for a good three hours with people excited, having fun and drinking.”

Another major draw for businesses downtown is the Arch, and as long as the government shutdown drags on, the Arch won’t be drawing any tourist to the area.
