Kozma pulling through for Cards in playoffs again

(BaseballStL) -- It’s October so of course that means things get to start not making a whole lot of sense.  Just like a season ago when Pete Kozma was thrust into the starting lineup at shortstop due to an injury to Rafael Furcal and shocked the world with his success, he’s doing it again.

Okay, maybe not that much.

But despite hitting barely over .200 for the entire season and being relegated to a time share with Daniel Descalso, Kozma is finding his stroke once again in October.  He’s 3-6 this series and extended several innings to the pitcher which allows the top of the lineup to lead off the inning after that.

“I’m just trying to get on base for the pitcher.  Let him bunt me over or whatever.  I’m just trying to be that second leadoff man,” Kozma said.

But is he doing anything different?  Any extra work with hitting coach John Mabry or any extra time in the video room?

“I’m just trying to have good at-bats, really just trying to keep it simple.  Not trying to do anything mechanical, just trying to go out there and swing at strikes,” Kozma said.

It’s October.  That means anything is possible.  Even if it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
