(FootballSTL) -- The crowd at the Edward Jones Dome was restless. The Rams offense was sputtering after falling behind 7-0. The Jacksonville Jaguars, the NFL’s lowest scoring team, was having its way with the Rams defense.  That’s when the Rams received the lift that they desperately needed in their 34-20 victory.

Free safety Matt Giordano’s 82 yard interception return for a touchdown with 3:08 in the first quarter gave the Rams and the fans at the Dome, the spark they were looking for.

Defensive end Robert Quinn helped set up Giordano’s pick when he disrupted Jags quarterback Blaine Gabbert on the pass rush.

Gabbert stepped up and overthrew Justin Blackmon, and his pass was picked off by Giordano.  82 yards later, Giordano  zig-zagged his way through the Jags offensive unit for the game tying touchdown.

“It was just a snowflake to start an avalanche”, said Giordano.

At 30-years-old, Giordano intercepted the 11th pass of his career, and his first as a Ram.

“I mean, Gio’s play was huge, but you’ve got to give Rob (Quinn) some credit,” said Head Coach Jeff Fisher. “Rob was right on the quarterback’s shoulder and affected the throw. Then our guys acted like they knew what to do with it. They got the blocks made and it was a great return. It kind of jump started us after a slow start.”

Giordano also had a pick-six for 83 yards back in 2007 as a member of the Indianapolis Colts. Giordano was a 4th round pick out of California in the 2005 draft. Giordano has played for 6 NFL teams, and won a Super Bowl with the Colts.

“It definitely was a play I felt like we needed as a team”, said Giordano. “We just needed a spark going, and I’m thankful enough that I was the one to spark it off”
