(BaseballStL) -- On the eve of Game 1 of the National League Division Series, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny wasn’t ready to announce every detail about his team’s plans against the Pirates.

“The (starting) rotation, we’re still going to sit tight a little bit with the first and second game. All five guys are going to be on the active roster,” Matheny said. “We know right now that Wainwright and Lynn will be going the first two (games) and we’ll make our adjustments as we go.”

Two of the pitchers in the starting rotation, rookie right-handers Michael Wacha and Shelby Miller, will be in the bullpen for Game 1.

While the official roster doesn’t need to be turned in until early Thursday morning, Matheny will elect to use the combination of Pete Kozma and Daniel Descalso at shortstop with Shane Robinson, Adron Chambers, Kolten Wong and Tony Cruz available on the bench.

It’s also worth noting, struggling reliever Edward Mujica will be on the NLDS roster.

Mujica pitched his way out of the closer’s role after posting an 11.05 earned-run average in 10 appearances in September. In 7.1 innings pitched last month, the opposition batted .514 and scored nine runs on 18 hits. He blew two-of-four save opportunities after converting 35 of his previous 37 chances.

When asked what Mujica’s role will be, Matheny replied, “he’ll be a right-handed pitcher.”
