(KMOV) – One man was killed after a vehicle slammed into a fire hydrant and landed on top of a parked car at a north St. Louis gas station early Monday morning.

According to police, four people were in a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on N. Broadway near E. Grand around 1 a.m. when the driver lost control.

The SUV then struck a fire hydrant, rolled over and landed on top of a parked car at a nearby BP gas station.

A 32-year-old man in the rear left passenger seat was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A group of witnesses helped three other men get out of the vehicle. They were hospitalized in stable condition.

It was not known why the driver lost control.

Additional details were not immediately available.
