Mizzou Football returns to Faurot Field with a 3-0 record and an offense that is ranked seventh in the nation in total yardage with a 567.0 average. The Tigers host non-conference foe Arkansas State on Saturday, Sept. 28, with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m.
With the 45-28 win at Indiana on Sept. 21, head coach Gary Pinkel matched former Mizzou coach Dan Devine for No. 2 in school history with his 93rd win. Pinkel has coached the Tigers to a 93-61 record during his 13-year tenure in Columbia. He now needs eight wins to match Mizzou's all-time winningest coach, Don Faurot, who won 101 games from 1935-42, 46-56.
Visiting squad Arkansas State recently took a setback at Memphis, losing by a score of 31-7 on Sept. 21. The Red Wolves enter the contest with Mizzou sporting a 2-2 record.
SIGHTS SET ON 4-0
All of Pinkel's Mizzou squads that have started 3-0 have won the following game to improve to a 4-0 record, with the instance happening six times during his 12 previous seasons at Mizzou.
Mizzou's 4-0 teams under Pinkel have kept momentum going incredibly well, as three of the last four seasons in which the Tigers started 4-0 ended in conference divisional titles.
Mizzou's last 4-0 start in 2010 was part of a remarkable 7-0 run to begin the season. The Tigers finished that campaign with a 10-3 record, Big 12 North Co-Championship and an Insight Bowl appearance.
A TIGER VICTORY MEANS:
Start 4-0 for the third time in five seasons, as well as the seventh time in Coach Pinkel's 13-season tenure at Mizzou.
Start 4-0 for the first time since the 2010 season, a campaign that brought Mizzou a Big 12 North Co-Championship and 10-3 record.
Improve to 94-61 under Coach Pinkel to move the coach into sole possession of No. 2 all-time at Mizzou. Former Tiger leader Dan Devine won 93 games from 1958-70.
Improve to 3-0 all-time vs. Arkansas State.
