(KMOV.com) – A new e-mail scam has forced the FBI to take notice.

Perpetrators are using the new FBI Director’s name,  James Comey.  There are diffrent variations of the e-mail, but most recipiants are told they have a large amount of money waiting on them, and are asked for personal information.

Officials warn residents not to respond to the e-mails.

“One thing you need to know is that the U.S. goverment will never contact you through unsolicited e-mails,” said Rebecca Wu with the FBI. “We use the legal process.”

Officials tell News 4 that 14,000 people have complained about the e-mail.

The FBI says victims have been scammed out of more than $4 million.
