Rams Insider: Rams-49ers renew rivalry today

The Rams and San Francisco 49ers have squared off 126 times in their history. Tonight’s matchup at the Edward Jones Dome comes at a time when both teams need a win badly to stay afloat in the NFC West. The Rams lead this all-time series at 62-61-3.

The Rams have a chance to beef up their 5-1-1 divisonal record under head coach Jeff Fisher. Even though the Rams have a record of 4-0 at home against the NFC West under Fisher, the coach isn’t taking anything for granted against a 49ers team that’s lost 2 games in a row.

“They’re a good football team,“ said Fisher. “What they did last year is indicative of that. You don’t get to where they got last year without being able to overcome adversity. They were a few plays away from winning the World Championship last year.”

Both the Rams and 49ers come into tonight's contest with 1-2 records, and each team is looking to end their two-game losing skids. Even though the Rams ended last year’s series against the Niners with a tie and a win, Fisher believes that last season’s success hasn’t added any more fuel to this rivarly.

“I think, with respect to a rivalry, it’s something that, as you say, ‘Gone on over the years,’ it really hasn’t. We’ve been on the losing end of a lot of games, this organization has," he said.

"Now last year, we got our feet back on the map, but I don’t think there’s a rivalry yet. It’s a division opponent. It’s a big challenge for us on a short week, but I don’t necessarily see it as a rivalry yet. Hopefully, we’ll become one."

While the Rams are coming off back to back road losses to Atlanta and Dallas, the 49ers are looking for a bounce-back victory after consecutive defeats to the Seahhawks and Colts.
