ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Upcoming construction on Interstate 64 and Highway 40 will affect thousands of drivers in south St. Louis for the next several months.
Starting next Monday, January 21, MoDOT will close the Taylor and Newstead bridges over I-64 after the morning rush.
Engineers are laying the groundwork for construction of a new I-64 interchange at Tower Grove Avenue.
“It certainly should lessen the influx of traffic that we have at Kingshighway and I-64,” said MoDOT engineer Deanna Venker. “So it will help take some of that pressure off that interchance and move it down a little bit.”
Taylor and Newstead will be closed at I-64 until November 2013. Drivers can use Tower Grove and Boyle as detours.
Washington University Medical Center and Barnes-Jewish Healthcare are working with MoDOT on the almost-$ 18 million project.
Construction will continue until July 2014.
