GODFREY, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Police have released the identity of a Godfrey man who was killed when a vehicle crashed into his home Sunday night.

Police say a man was driving his SUV in the 100 block of Saturn Drive just before 11 p.m. when he lost control and hit a home.

Marlin F. Bushnell, 73, was found unresponsive inside the home by emergency crews. It was later determined Bushnell died from injuries suffered in the accident.

Authorities with the Madison County Sheriff's Department said the driver of the SUV took the vehicle from a nearby family member's house on the 200 block of Mercury Drive before the wreck.

Police said the driver fled the scene following the crash. Police later found the driver in the Beer Barrel Pub parking lot located at 7205 Monclaire Avenue. He was taken into custody and was being held in the Madison County jail pending further investigation. So far, no charges have been issued.

An accident reconstructionist with the Madison County Sheriff's Office and a crime scene technician responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. Detectives with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office plan to continue the investigation further.
