CAHOKIA, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- Homicide detectives have identified a man who was shot dead on a residential street in Cahokia, Ill. Friday night, according to authorities.
The shooting happened in the 100 block of Amelia at 7:35 p.m.
Residents told News 4 they saw a car speeding up along the roadway, then heard six gunshots. The male victim reportedly tried to run for cover, but was struck by gunfire.
Sanchez Garner, of Cahokia, was later pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy will be performed Saturday morning to determine the exact cause of death.
St. Clair County detectives and Illinois State Police are still investigating the shooting, along with the Major Case Squad of St. Louis.
