BELLEVILLE, Il (KMOV.com) -- Back-to-back break-ins on the same Belleville street have police on alert and residents on edge.
The incidents happened along Lakeshore Drive Tuesday afternoon. Police say the first home had it’s front door kicked in during the burglary.
Less than an hour later, authorities say someone tried to break into the home next door, while police were searching the neighborhood for suspects in the first incident.
The second homeowner said a concerned neighbor alerted him to the break in in progress.
“My neighbor called me and said they’re attempting to break into my house and I had to quit doing the tattoo and come out here and find out what was going on,” said Jay Gintz. “It was either because of my dogs or because they couldn’t get past the deadbolt.”
The neighborhood is also home to several Belleville police officers.
