ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) -- St. Louis City Water Dept. crews worked on eight water main breaks thoughout the St. Louis area on Thursday and Friday morning.
One crew in St. Louis Hills near Chippewa and Ivanhoe stopped the water supply to a few businesses and at least one apartment complex. A water worker said all water has since been restored.
For people living and working throughout the city, this is an issue that will linger longer into the winter months.
According to a Missouri American Water spokesperson, the cold weather mixed with last summer’s drought makes the century old pipes susceptible to breaking. The spokesperson also said workers are focusing on two things: fixing the breaks as they happen and trying to prevent ruptures by replacing old lines.
Last year, the water company invested $58 million to into 300 projects.
