A few weeks ago an arsonist struck. The victim was a St. Charles County Sheriff's deputy and his family.
The family lost nearly everything it owns. They're now starting to get back on their feet. Deputy Kevin Parker's colleagues gathered in a Schnuck's parking lot in Cottleville today to barbecue and help raise money and donations for Parker's family.
Investigators don't know if Parker's home was targeted because he is African-American, or because he is a deputy...or if the attack was just random.
We talked with Jackson's wife. She said people are donating everything from tables to beds for her kids.
We talked with some of the folks who had come out to show their support today. They said it was important that they be there.
Think about the support we've seen for Rock Hill police officer Matt Crosby. Consider the outpouring of support for Jackson and his family. I was talking to a gentleman who was born in Russia and has been something of a world traveler in his life. He said he does not see the rallies and support that we see in the U.S. in other countries around the world.
