Boeing workers ready to go on strike

(KMOV) -- Union machinists said they are ready to go on strike against Boeing in St. Louis.

Union officers said 99% of their members voted to authorize a strike if the company's final contract offer is not accepted on June 13.

Machinists said they are upset with Boeing's plan to eliminate seniourity protections in the event of possible layoffs.

King says he hopes that seniority issue can be worked out in the next few days then they can get to the economic issues.

Boeing said in a statement they expect honest, open discussions to lead to a new contract before the June 13th deadline.

Now to be clear, no one wants to strike, but the 2,600 area Boeing union workers will do so if they feel they have no other choice.

Besides the seniority issue, they're also not happy with some of the new language regarding overtime.

IAM 837 Union President Gordan King said he's been negotiating with boeing for the past three weeks and will stay at it 6 to 8 hours a day until things get worked out.
