(KMOV) – A two alarm fire broke out at a home around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday in unincorporated St. Charles County.
An 8-year-old boy was in the house watching television when the smoke detectors went off. The boy also saw smoke. He immediately went to a neighbor’s home to call 911. The homeowner was in the backyard cutting grass at the time.
The fire rapidly spread throughout the home. The first and second stories of the home were destroyed before firefighters arrived just four minutes after the boy made the call. It took 35 firefighters to tame the blaze.
Officials estimated the damage to be more than $200,000.
Investigators say the fire was accidental; an electrical short caused the flame. No one was injured.
