CHICAGO (AP) -- A new report shouldn't surprise drivers used to cars shuddering and shaking over Illinois' roads.
The U.S. PIRG report says Illinois has the nation's 10th roughest roads, with 57 percent in less-than-good condition. Georgia has the best roads, with 95 percent in good condition.
The watchdog group criticizes policies favoring new roadways.
It notes Illinois has about 2,300 structurally deficient bridges, but spends more on building new or wider highways. Illinois PIRG's Brian Imus likens that to adding a guest room when your roof's leaking.
The Illinois Department of Transportation hasn't returned a call seeking comment.
