Kim Schlau is on a mission to save lives. Schlau lost her daughters, Jessica and Kelli Uhl, in November of 2007 when an Illinois State Trooper slammed his squad into them on Interstate 64. Investigators say Matt Mitchell was travelling at 126 mph when he hit the girls.
Since the accident, Schlau has devoted her life to saving families from the pain she had to endure. Most recently, in an effort to reach others, she joined Pursuit Safety. Pursuit Safety was founded in Northern California by Candy Priano three years ago. Priano founded the group in the wake of her own daughter’s death due to a police pursuit. She tells me the group’s purpose is threefold: to support the surviving victims of law enforcement related crashes, to save lives, and to unite people and create change in the law enforcement community.
Priano says nationwide, five innocent people die every week because of a pursuit or high speed law enforcement related crash.
Schalu is now the Volunteer Leader for Pursuit Safety the State of Illinois.
