Strong storms blow through southern Missouri

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- Strong winds and hail pummeled parts of southwest and southeast Missouri, blowing down trees and causing damage near Table Rock Lake.

Taney County deputies reported "significant" damage to boats and docks at State Park Marina near Table Rock Dam. Several trees also were blown down Saturday after what the National Weather Service called a possible tornado hit the area.

And Barry County emergency workers reported a boat dock on Table Rock Lake was ripped from the shore and sent into a cove near Viola. Wind damage was also reported in Stone, Taney and Christian counties.

In southeast Missouri, winds blew the roof off the police department in East Prairie, and a young boy there was briefly trapped when a mobile home he was in blew over.

And flooding was reported in and around Poplar Bluff, where up to a foot of water was reported in some roads.
