ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The St. Louis Rams picked Illinois tight end Michael Hoomanawanui with the first pick of the fifth round.
The Rams, whose 10.9-point scoring average trailed the NFL, have concentrated on offense. Quarterback Sam Bradford of Oklahoma was the first overall pick, Indiana offensive tackle Rodger Saffold went in the second round and Cincinnati wide receiver Mardy Gilyard in the fourth. The lone pick on defense thus far was South Florida cornerback Jerome Murphy in the third.
The 6-5, 270-pound Hoomanawanui (Ho-OH-man-NO-man-OO-ee) missed three games with an ankle injury his senior season. He had 10 receptions for 114 yards with no touchdowns.
