Suspect shot while trying to break into cars

(KMOV) -- A man was shot while allegedly trying to break into cars in west St. Louis overnight.

It happened along Delmar Boulevard near Union around 1:30 Friday morning.

Authorities said the victim heard a noise and looked out his window to see someone entering his vehicle, a 2004 Dodge Truck. The victim went to the parking lot and confronted the suspect. The suspect got out of the truck and pointed a gun at the victim. The victim then removed a gun and started shooting at the suspect, striking him in the leg.

The 31-year-old man who shot the alleged thief will not face charges.
 
Shaquille Kirkendoll faces theft/stealing, armed criminal action and stealing of a motor vehicle charges. He is currently hospitalized in stable condition.
