Man approaches teen walking home from school in Metro East

(KMOV)-- Police are alerting parents after a man approached a teen in east Alton, IL Thursday afternoon.

Authorities said a parent contacted police after her 15-year-old son was approached by a man he did not know when he was walking home from a bus stop on Wesly Drive. The man asked the teen if he wanted a ride home. The teen declined the invitation and continued walking.

Authorities said the intentions of the man is unknown. He is described as a white male possibly in his 60's. He has white hair and a scraggly white beard. He was wearing a long sleeved flannel shirt. He was driving a older model green mini van.

Police want to remind parents to take this opportunity to speak with their children in regards to family safety and awareness plans when they are in situations like the one described above.
