Minority contractors sue Metro over hiring

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A group representing minority contractors in St. Louis has filed a lawsuit against the Metro transit agency.

The lawsuit alleges that Metro failed to hire enough minority firms for the construction of a MetroLink line.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Wednesday that the group, MoKan, and the NAACP allege breach of contract, breach of good faith and fair dealing, and fraud. The lawsuit was filed Tuesday.

MoKan said the transit agency did not meet the 20 percent subcontracting goal for women- and minority-owned businesses for construction of its Shrewsbury line.

Among other things, the lawsuit seeks damages of $15 million.

Metro officials had not seen the complaint and would not comment on it.
