(KMOV) -- A teenager was shot in the chest early Saturday morning and is listed in serious but stable condition.

Authorities said a 17-year-old male was walking with two other people at about 12:48 a.m. when he was shot in the chest in the 4300 block of Linton. The victim hid in some tall grass after he heard the shots without realizing that he had been shot.

A person pulled up later in a gray car and got out. The victim and one of the people he was with fired two shots each at this person.

After the gray car left, the victim realized he had been shot and was taken to a hospital by his friend.
