Close to 500 people employed by the St. Louis School District may lose their jobs. This evening the district’s superintendent recommended the school board approve a list of changes to save $ 57.5 million dollars. The largest cut to the budget could come from staffing reductions. Superintendent Kelvin Adams recommended the district save close to $ 44 million dollars by cutting 490 positions.
Here is the breakdown of possible staff cuts:
80 Substitute Teachers
130 Support Staff
30 Central Staff members
Superintendent Adams also recommended that the board close 6 schools.
Those schools are:
Gallaudet Hearing Impaired- Special Education Site
Bunche International Studies Middle School- Middle School Site
Cleveland NJROTC @ Pruitt High School Site
Alternative Education South @ Lyon-Alternative Education Site
Fresh Start Academy @ Turner- Alternative Education Site
Ford Branch-After School Program Site
The School Board is expected to vote on the proposed reductions in its April 29th meeting.
