(KMOV.com) – Many residents told News 4 they are concerned about a stretch of I-44 in downtown St. Louis they consider dangerous.
“I mean it’s scary, somebody’s going to end up dying out here. You hear a bang and then you go do something and there’s another one and another one,” said nearby resident Jeff Whistler.
Whistler is referring to a stretch of I-44 between the Arch and Edward Jones Dome. That stretch of highway has been designated a construction work zone by MoDOT because of the improvements being made to the Archgrounds.
“Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., every hour on the hour there was an accident from here to that stretch,” Whistler said.
Whistler and others snapped pictures of the crashed cars. Seven cars have been involved in a crash on that stretch of highway since Sunday, more than twenty have been in involved in accidents over the past year and a half.
“I don’t know if there’s a dip in the road or what, but somebody’s going to get hurt if they don’t look into it,” Whistler said.
There are also numerous scraps along the barricades on the highway, which may indicate many drivers have lost control on the road. St. Louis police told News 4 they do not have an explanation for accidents.
