UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Police are searching for a man accused of following a woman and grabbing her while she was jogging in University City, Missouri Monday morning.
Police say the woman was jogging in the 7200 block of Forsyth when a man grabbed her from behind and put his hand over her mouth. Police say the woman bit the man’s hand and he released her before he fled on foot.
The victim chased after the man for a short distance before she called police.
The woman was not injured during the incident.
The police investigation revealed the suspect followed the woman on a bike for more than one mile from St. Louis City to the area of Skinker and Forsyth as she was jogging.
"It's really scary, I'm a runner myself and especially in this neighborhood which is super safe," said nearby resident Betsy Meyland-Smith. "I always try to be diligent even before this happened, even though this is a scary reminder that we always need to be careful."
Authorities say the suspect is 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10. He was wearing blue jeans, a light blue long sleeve shirt and a light blue/gray knit hat at the time of the incident.
Anyone with information about the incident or who can identify the suspect is asked to call the University City Police Department at 314-725-2211, Ext. 8010 or Crime Stoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
