NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -A woman woke up early Monday morning to find a man covered in blood and screaming in the middle of her Green Hills home.
The woman, who we will call Jackie to protect her identity, grabbed her son and locked the bedroom, only to realize she could not find her phone to call 911.
“I saw a young male, pacing and screaming and yelling things,” Jackie said. “The loudest I’ve ever heard anybody scream.”
Jackie’s husband was working overnight. They are both local health care professionals.
“I was looking for my cell phone, and I could not find my cell phone,” Jackie said. “All I could think about was getting my 2-year-old son.”
With her husband at work, the instinctive mother knew she had to move quickly.
“I went in here, to my son’s room, and I tiptoed in here and grabbed him up out of the bed, and I tiptoed back into our bedroom,” Jackie said. “When I came in here, I laid him down on the bathroom floor.”
Jackie barricaded herself inside the room, pushing furniture behind the door. The intruder stood screaming outside the door.
“I thought that this was going to be my last night living, that this was it,” she said.
With no phone, Jackie grabbed her iPad.
“I FaceTimed my mom,” Jackie said. “She picked up and I said, ‘Mom, I don’t have a lot of time to talk, but I need you to call 911 for me because there’s a man in my house.’”
Jackie continued to use her iPad to text, begging her mother to “please hurry.”
Soon after, police found 20-year-old Andrew Robinson bleeding on the family’s couch. He had broken in through the front window.
“He didn’t have any shoes on, so I don’t know how he got here,” Jackie said. “I don’t know if he walked.”
Jackie said she hopes her neighbors have a plan if this ever happens to them.
“The only thing that saved my life was God, my mom and this iPad,” she said.
Robinson was taken to the hospital and later booked into Davidson County Jail. He is charged with vandalism, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, criminal trespassing and drug possession. He is a student at Belmont University.
