(KMOV.com) -- Police say a man who stole $42 dollars and shot a Caseyville business owner will spend 25 years in prison.

Phillip Smith, 33, was arrested for robbing the Ferguson Television and Satellite store in November 2013. During the robbery, Smith shot 63-year-old business owner Judy Ferguson, leaving 12 bullet wounds in her body. Ferguson did survive the incident.

Authorities say Smith will be on five years probation after he gets out of prison.

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say they will seek a 25-year sentence for a man who admitted shooting a southwestern Illinois business owner while stealing $42 during a robbery.

Thirty-three-year-old Phillip Smith pleaded guilty Wednesday to three felony counts related to last November’s holdup at the Ferguson Television and Satellite shop in Caseyville.

Authorities say the East St. Louis man fired at least nine shots at the 63-year-old shop owner, who sustained 12 entry and exit wounds from the bullets. She survived.

Smith’s background includes a 2003 conviction for possession of a firearm by a felon.

Smith is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 26.
