(KMOV.com) – St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay said police showed restraint during demonstrations Wednesday night after Vonderrit Myers, Jr. was shot by a police officer.
Tensions between officers and protesters rose around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday. Some protesters came face to face with police.
“These officers did a great job in using restraint they were getting yelled at and screamed at from all directions and angles,” Slay said.
One example was an officer backing away from a rowdy crowd as someone reached out to grab his arm.
Wednesday, no officers were hurt and News 4 reporters did not observe officers turning violent on protesters.
St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said two officers will now respond to calls. Dotson also said extra officers will be on patrol Saturday and Sunday.
