(KMOV.com) – Residents who live in the neighborhood where Vonderrit Myers, Jr was shot by a St. Louis police officer said crime is rare in the area.
The Shaw neighborhood is only a few blocks away from the Missouri Botanical Garden. It is known for its upscale historic homes, trendy hangouts, schools, and diversity.
“Young and old, different races, and we all get along. We talk daily, we check with each other. I feel like if anything would happen, they would know,” said resident Emily Jean.
Statistics show assaults, robberies, burglaries, and larcenies are down from 2013.
“Other than the incident last night, nothing like this has ever happened,” said resident George Wilson.
News 4 attempted to contact Alderman Stephen Shaw, who represents the area at St. Louis City Hall, but he did not returned News 4’s calls.
