Feds, local prosecutor to investigate south St. Louis officer-involved shooting
St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce said her office and federal prosecutors will investigate the shooting
(KMOV.com) – St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce announced that both her office and federal authorities will investigate the shooting of 18-year-old Vonderrit Myers, Jr.
The investigation will begin inside the police department. The new Force Investigative Unit, which investigates incidents where officers use force, will file a report that will be turned over to the Circuit Attorney’s Office.
Joyce said the investigation will include five attorneys from the Circuit Attorney’s Office and one assistant federal prosecutor. Joyce also said her office’s investigation will be independent of the police and St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay.
“I’ve made it clear, I am not going to read the police summary, I will talk to witnesses, go out and investigate,” Joyce said.
Joyce said the Circuit Attorney is required to investigate all officer involved shootings.
