ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A Missouri state senator says Wednesday night's fatal shooting is an example of racial profiling turning deadly.

The Justice for Michael Brown Leadership Coalition held a news conference Thursday morning to discuss what they say happened Wednesday.

State Senator Jamilah Nasheed said she spoke with St. Louis City Police Chief Sam Dotson at the scene.
She commended his officers for not using a heavy hand during the protests, but she also questions why this killing happened in the first place.
“The question that I have is why did they pursue him? Were there any 911 calls? Was they just standing on the street and if that's the case, is that a crime? Is it a crime to just being standing out talking amongst yourselves,” Nasheed said at the news conference.
The teenager's father also attended the news conference, however he did not make a public statement.
