ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Officers with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department asked for the public's help locating a vehicle wanted in connection with Monday's fatal shooting in downtown St. Louis.

Police said a red, 4-door Oldsmobile Alero was seen traveling on Market, near 7th Street, in the moments after that shooting at 4th and Market.

Police said the vehicle has no front license plate and the rear license plate area is covered with a tinted license plate cover making it difficult to determine if there is a rear license plate on the vehicle.

Police said five people were in the car at the time of the shooting. The alleged shooter was in the rear passenger seat.

Anyone with information on the car's whereabouts or occupants is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS.

Two people were killed and another injured in a shooting in downtown St. Louis stemming from an apparent drug transaction, according to St. Louis police.

Police said three people were shot. Two of the victims, identified Tuesday as 24-year-old Jonathan Saddler and 22-year-old James Lane, were pronounced dead shortly after, according to St. Louis police; one at the scene and another at a local hospital. One victim was shot in the ankle and is expected to be okay.

According to police, the victims' vehicle was at a stop light when another vehicle pulled up next to them and the suspects inside fired multiple shots.  Police said the suspects fled the scene in a red sedan, possibly an Alero, and have yet to be arrested. According to police, the incident began at S. Tucker Street and South 12th Street during an apparent drug transaction.

"These individuals, while they say they don''t, know why they were targeted," said Chief Sam Dotson. "We have reason to believe there was a drug transaction involved in this. The vehicle over my shoulder has bullet holes on both sides of the vehicle."

Many people were witnesses to the shooting and some went to help the victims.

"I heard gun shots that sound like cannons," said one woman who wanted to remain anonymous. "I saw kids running and then I saw one guy run back and try to attend to a friend that was running out the car and he was bleeding and I just got off the bus and I just helped."

"We looked back to see what happened and a car door opened and gunfire rang out, so I told my husband to go and we hightailed it right and we called police and we went back up to check and there was a man that pulled a gun out of the car and took off running," said another woman who also wanted to remain anonymous.
