FAYETTEVILLE, GA (CBS46) -A witness said two elderly people were conscious, but bloody, after their plane crashed in a practice field at Starr's High School in Fayetteville.

The witness said she noticed the plane flying low which eventually clipped trees before crashing onto the field.

The single-engine Socata TBM700 crashed at about 1 p.m. Sunday.

Two people were on board. According to the Federal Aviation Association, the plane was en route from the DeKalb-Peachtree Airport in Atlanta headed for the Harris County Airport in Pine Mountain.

Neighbors drove their golf carts to the scene after hearing about the incident.

A witness said her husband and a Delta mechanic rushed over to assist the couple seconds after the crash.  The mechanic removed seats in order to free the couple.

She said flames and smoke were not visible, but she smelled jet fuel. The witness said because they smelled fuel they decided to help the couple off of the plane. She said the couple was able to walk with assistance.

The plane was removed Sunday night to allow students to return to school Monday.

The names or conditions of the victims have not been released.
