BELLEVILLE (KMOV.com) – Belleville police are making more information on where crime happens accessible to the public.
Police recently began to put online where a crime occurs, what type of crime, and who owns the property.
Resident Heidi Sepps takes care of her mother who has cancer. She recently found out arson was committed down the street from her mother’s house.
“It’s pretty awesome, I can go online and make sure her area is okay and she is taken care of,” Sepps said.
Police said the city asked them to be more transparent after shooting in the area.
“Also we are constantly updating our Facebook page. We feel educating the community about crimes in the area could help in the long run by calling police with suspicious problems in the area,’ said Sgt. Mark Heffernan with Belleville police.
