ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- The St. Louis County Police Department will take over command of security detail in Ferguson, a news release Friday afternoon said.
County Police said Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson asked the County Police Department to assume command of security detail in Ferguson until further notice. The news release cited a "lack of resources and manpower" as the main factors for the decision.
County Police said "it is our goal to provide both our citizens and the media with the safest environment possible so that they may freely exercise their First Amendment Right, while also protecting the rights and safety of all residents and businesses in the City of Ferguson."
Prior to today, the Ferguson Police Department had been responsible for commanding all detail.
