Grichuk, Kozma get nod for Game 1

(BaseballStL) — The Cardinals have released their lineup for Game 1 against Clayton Kershaw, going with the bats of Randal Grichuk and Pete Kozma to start the series.

Kozma will play second and bat seventh, getting the nod over Kolten Wong. Kershaw has had trouble with Kozma in their few meetings, with Cardinal infielder picking up four hits in eight at bats. Three of those are doubles, and when a pitcher like Kershaw is on the mound, that’s enough of a trend to get someone a start.

Grichuk will play right and bat second, likely because of his success against lefties. He hit just under .300 with 15 homers off southpaws in the minors this year, and all three of his major league homers came off lefties.

Here is the rest of the lineup:

1) Matt Carpenter 3B

2) Randal Grichuk RF

3) Matt Holliday LF

4) Jhonny Peralta SS

5) Yadier Molina C

6) Matt Adams 1B

7) Pete Kozma 2B

8) Jon Jay CF

9) Adam Wainwright P
