ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A Flordell Hills police officer was charged with stealing a controlled substance from an evidence room at the police station, according to a news release from the St. Louis County Police Department.

Police said following a single-vehicle car accident on Saturday, Flordell Hills police officer Jeremy Quate was transported to a local hospital.  While at the hospital, Quate was found to be in possession of alprazolam, a drug in which he did not have a prescription for, according to St. Louis County Police.

An investigation was done by commanders with the Flordell Hills Police Department into why Quate was in possession of the drug.  The St. Louis County Police Division of Criminal Investigation was called to handle the investigation.

Quate allegedly admitted to investigators he had taken the alprazolam from the Flordell Hills evidence safe on Friday, September 26.

Quate, 31, was charged with stealing a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.
