NEW ATHENS, Ill. (KMOV.com) –  One person was listed in critical condition and two others were in serious condition after a head-on collision in unincorporated St. Clair County Wednesday morning.

Police say a pickup truck was traveling westbound on Route 13 near Baldwin Road close to New Athens, Illinois around 7:00 a.m. when the driver lost control and drifted into the eastbound lane striking a Chevy Aveo head-on.

According to police, a male passenger from the Chevy Aveo was airlifted from the scene to a St. Louis hospital where he is listed in critical condition. The two drivers were taken, via ambulance, to an area hospital and then airlifted to a St. Louis hospital.

Officials say two people had to be extricated following the collision.
