(KMOV.com) -- Missouri State Senator Maria Chappell- Nadal defended her tweet stating there was a rumor that the grand jury had made a decision whether to charge Darren Wilson in the shooting death of MIchael Brown, Jr.
Rumor, not verified: I've been told the Grand Jury has concluded its process. Please ask the right questions for verification.— MariaChappelleNadal (@MariaChappelleN) September 29, 2014
On Monday, Chappelle-Nadal wrote on her Twitter page that the grand jury had finished its work. News 4 later learned that the rumor was false.
"I did my due diligence by using the terminology verify twice in 140 characters, by saying it's a rumor,” Chappelle-Nadal tells News 4.
“Most people when you say rumor, not verified, please ask the right questions for verification, that should tell you it may or may not be true."
Media reports later verified the rumor as being false.
Chappelle-Nadal says there is still great value in using social media to keep the public informed about developments in Ferguson.
