ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Two families are grieving after a North St. Louis County man struck and killed his 2-year-old neighbor with a car Friday afternoon.
Sharon Davis said her 23-year-old son was backing out a friend's car in the 1000 block of Duke around 1 p.m. when he struck Aaliyah "Lilly" Jones in the driveway.
"Jeremy got in the car to back it up slowly and a neighbor said, 'wait a minute,'" she said. "But by that time, even though he was in slow motion, the baby is very tiny in weight and everything and it was just too late. I saw him on the ground hollering and screaming and I ran over and he said, 'Momma, momma, I hit Lilly. Momma I ran over Lilly.'"
The child was transported to Christian Northeast Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
"We're all like a family over here," Davis said. "My son is so tore up about it. He's not taking it well. I'm just asking everyone to pray for him as well."
Police said the child's death has been considered an accident. No charges are expected to be filed.
